Marcello's Pizza
About This Spot
Walking into Marcello's Pizza is like stepping into a trusted neighborhood nook where the rhythm of life slows just enough to appreciate simple pleasures. Nestled right across from the iconic Castro Theater on busy Castro Street, this modest spot hums with low-key energy—the kind that invites both hurried commuters grabbing a slice and locals who linger just a little longer. The atmosphere is unpretentious, with a handful of small tables and stools by the window offering an intimate view of one of San Francisco’s most vibrant streets.
Inside, the open kitchen lets you catch glimpses of pizzas being crafted fresh, the warm glow from the pizza display case adding a cozy touch. The space is snug and straightforward, without fuss—here, the focus is quietly on well-made food and the moments that connect over it. On rainy days, it feels especially comforting to sit down with a warm slice, the chewy dough and bubbling cheese a familiar kind of comfort amidst the grey.
The menu subtly celebrates variety within its specialty—Sicilian-style pizzas with thoughtful toppings that feel like an invitation to find your own favorite. Whether it’s a classic pepperoni slice to satisfy a quick craving or a creative half-and-half with basil and feta for those wanting something a touch lighter, the offerings feel like an honest nod to both tradition and personal taste. Calzones and Dutch Crunch Pizza Bread add even more texture to the experience, showing care to meet diverse appetites with simplicity and flavor.
Marcello’s isn’t just about grabbing a bite—it’s about those everyday moments of pause, shared over food that’s straightforward but soulful. The friendly interactions at the counter, the quiet buzz of Castro Street outside, and the allure of a piping-hot slice make it a small but resonant chapter in the ongoing story of the neighborhood. It’s a comforting place where the local pulse and the love of good pizza come together seamlessly.

Cash only! For a quick slice of pizza that hot, fresh and tasty Marcello’s pizza is tough to beat. Their dough is chewy and bread like, the cheese is thick and chewy. I like to sit and eat inside on a wet and cold day. For about $5 it’s a good eats.

One of life's great foods after a night of drinking? Pizza! ATMOSPHERE: The no-frills small restaurant has a few indoor tables, a pizza display case and open-view kitchen. MENU: Apps, salads, pizzas, calzones, hot subs, burgers. FOOD: Cheese Mushroom & Tomato Pizza The room-temperature slices got reheated and boxed. The thin crust was chewy and topped with marinara, cheese, lots of fresh mushrooms and diced tomatoes. Simply delicious! SERVICE: Counter service was friendly and quick. OVERALL: A bit pricey, but what homemade pizza joint isn't?

Pizza by the slice since forever, always fresh and hot or custom whole pies. Counter service. A few small tables and a small counter with stools for seating has the best views. Great views of Castro Street and the Castro Theater across the street. You never know what you'll see out the windows.

I absolutely love their Pizza! The chef made half cheese and pepperoni for my grandson and he made half light sauce, feta cheese and basil for me. It was absolutely delicious the crust is so crisp and light it's wonderful and I love their pizza sauce as well. It's a small place, pizza by the slice or by the pie, directly across from the Castro theater. In my opinion it's one of the little gems here in San Francisco The new photo is a crisp thin crust, light sauce with red bell pepper, broccoli, green onion and rosemary... Mmmmmmm. Simply the best

Always sold out of the pesto pizza! Get there fast. Great petite pizza spot. Perfect for a late night snack grabs on a Saturdays (if you know what I mean!) Best part; never fails on taste, quality, and speedy service.

Marcello's is a pizzeria where you can buy pizza by slice or the whole one. It is located in Castro, San Francisco. They are open until late. The pizzas are great and the service too. They have a couple of tables outside and a few inside. I have been going to this place for a while and like it. Stop by if you are in the Castro neighborhood.
